Vega and Alula
Vega and Alula finally made it to Little Earth Star Farm! Vega is named after the brightest star in the Lyra constellation. She is black with white splotches. And her sister, Alula, has the opposite coloring. She is white with black splotches. Alula is named after the binary star system within Ursa Major. They are about 2 feet tall, 2 and a half feet long, and 6 inches wide. They are very healthy and came from J's Riverview farm in Limington, Maine.
Here are pictures of them as babies:
In preparation for them, we got: (most things are from Tractor Supply Company)

In preparation for them, we got: (most things are from Tractor Supply Company)
- Pine shavings for bedding
- First cut hay bales ( I will tell you the difference later)
- 10 eight by four cattle panels for fencing https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/ok-brand-handy-panel-8-ft-l-x-50-in-h
- 5.5-foot t posts
- Post driver
- 17 gauge galvanized steel fence wire to tie the cattle panels together
- Horse water bucket
- Feed dish (like ones made for dogs)
- Mineral block
- Dandy Brush https://www.saddlebox.net/horse-brushes-explained/
- Dog collars for both of them!
We put the goats in a dog crate for the 3-hour drive back to Little Earth Star Farm. This part was fine. We got back and put them in the barn, where we let them settle for a bit. Then we let them into their fenced-in yard, where Vega squeezed through a 5 by 7 inch square in a cattle panel. We managed to get Alula into the barn, and Vega back in the yard, where she escaped again. We finally got both of the goats back into the barn and covered the lower two rows of squares with some free chicken wire from a free sale at someone's house down the road. It was quite a crazy day!
Morals of today:
- Where there's a will, there's a way. (This pertains to both us humans and goats)
- Goats can get through anything that isn't half their size.

Finally Home!
