It is now the middle of October. The goats are getting big and have puffy coats for winter. Our garden is mostly bare now, (we have picked lettuce and radishes as there have been a few touches of frost already) except for the garlic underneath a half a foot of dead leaves for mulch. To make applesauce with this ancient creature, all you have to do is cut a bunch of apples into halves or fourths, boil them for about 5 min., or until they are soft, put them in the metal hopper, cores and all, and crank the handle. It still works great, and it is about 50 years old. It is an awesome, functional antique. Here are the results:
